Lotto Jackpot Rolls Down To Create Bigger Prizes

Lotto Jackpot Rolls Down To Create Bigger Prizes
Updated: Monday 9th March 2020

Thousands of Lotto players picked up larger prizes than normal in Saturday night’s Must be Won draw after the jackpot rolled down. Among the winners, three lucky ticket holders snapped up £1,115,780 each despite not matching all six main numbers.

Winning Lotto Numbers

The winning Lotto numbers for 7th March were 5, 29, 35, 36, 40 and 44, while the Bonus Ball was 42. The jackpot had to be won following five consecutive rollovers, but no tickets matched all six main numbers to pocket the £11.5 million prize.

When there are no jackpot winners in a Must Be Won draw, the money for the top prize is split between everyone who matches at least three main numbers. The biggest share - 74 percent - goes to the Match 3 tier because this has the most winners. On Saturday, there were 134,162 players who all received £93 instead of the standard fixed prize of £30.

The 5,855 participants who matched four numbers saw their standard £140 payout boosted to £476, while 71 Match 5 winners received £11,534 - more than six times the usual value of £1,750. The luckiest players were the trio who were given an extra £115,780 on top of the £1 million they would have landed for matching five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball.

With over a million tickets also earning free Lucky Dips for matching two numbers, it was a special draw for players throughout the UK. Take a look at the Lotto Results for full details about the draw.

Why Do Must Be Won Draws Take Place?

Must Be Won draws were introduced to make sure that the Lotto jackpot would be given away on a regular basis. As the top prize can never roll over for more than five consecutive draws without being won, there are draws in which multimillion-pound payouts are guaranteed.

This creates extra excitement among players, with Must Be Won draws boosting the chances of winning a bigger prize than normal. The odds of winning in each tier remain the same and the cost of a ticket never changes, but if you match three numbers or more it is likely that your payout will be significantly enhanced.

Must Be Won draws have also been held occasionally to mark special occasions such as Christmas, and so far there have been 19 since they were introduced in late 2018. Of those 19, there have only been three draws when someone has matched all six numbers to win the jackpot.

It may be that the next Must Be Won draw is only a matter of weeks away, but you can play twice a week for the chance to win the latest big jackpot. Take part online or visit an authorised retailer.
