Lotto Event on 6th August to Guarantee a £20 Million Jackpot Win

A £20 million Lotto Must Be Won draw will take place on Saturday 6th August, setting up the possibility of a rolldown that could benefit millions of players across the UK.

It is the joint-largest jackpot to have been offered on Lotto all year, following previous £20 million draws in March and June. The one in June was held to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and ended with one lucky ticket holder pocketing the full jackpot.

If nobody wins on Saturday, the jackpot must still be paid out, so it will be split between everyone else who has won a prize.

This results in bigger prizes all around, starting with an extra £5 for all the Match 2 winners. A fixed percentage of the prize fund is then distributed to each of the other categories, to be shared amongst everyone in that tier.

It could be that you win around £100 for matching three numbers instead of the regular £100, but you don’t have to pay any more to take part and the odds of winning are exactly the same as normal. Go to the page on Must Be Won draws for more information.

Jackpot Could Still Be Won on Wednesday

Must Be Won draws only usually happen when there have five consecutive rollovers, but from time to time these promotional events also take place when the jackpot is guaranteed to be given away.

The top prize is pushed up to an amount that is higher than is usually possible with just five rollovers. This money comes from the Reserve Fund, which receives a percentage (8.78%) of the prize fund in every draw.

When a promotional Must Be Won is scheduled for a particular date, it does not prevent the jackpot from being won in the preceding draw. For example, Saturday’s jackpot will be £20 million and must be won regardless of whether or not there is a winner on Wednesday night.

If you’re wondering how to choose your numbers for the big event, you could take a statistical approach, use the Generator to get a random set, or devise your own strategy. You have a chance to win as long as you take part, and there’s a chance you could end up with a larger prize than normal.
