Is EuroMillions Heading For Another Record Jackpot?

Updated: Monday 27th June 2022

The EuroMillions jackpot has reached the £150 million mark for the second time in as many months, setting up the chance of another record win in the UK in the very near future.

This summer’s Superdraw took place on Friday 17th June, offering a top prize of €130 million (£111 million). Nobody won on the night, and the jackpot has continued to roll.

Millions of players will be hoping to win the nine-figure sum in the next draw, but it could already be on course to become the largest jackpot ever seen in the 18-year history of the multinational lottery.

The biggest jackpot ever won in the UK came just a few weeks ago on 10th May. It was worth £184 million after a run of 14 rollovers, and Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester were the only players from anywhere in Europe to match all the numbers.

The Thwaites came forward quickly to claim their prize and were later presented to the media after deciding to go public with their story.

If someone does break their record in the next few weeks, they do not have to opt for publicity like the Thwaites did. They could instead remain anonymous, in which case no more information would be released about where they purchased their ticket, or even if it was an individual or a syndicate.

The EuroMillions jackpot can reach a maximum of €230 million (approximately £197 million), which could happen in early July if it keeps rolling.

Once it hits this limit, new jackpot cap rules come into force. When this happens, there can be bigger payouts in the prize tier below the jackpot.

EuroMilllions has been creating big winners in the UK and the rest of Europe since 2004, but most of the top ten have come in the last few years, with Superdraws taking place more regularly and the jackpot cap going up.

If you want to try and become the next jackpot winner, you only stand a chance if you take part. Get involved online or head down to your nearest lottery retailer, then remember to keep an eye out for the winning numbers as soon as they are announced.
