£20M Must Be Won Jackpot Will Mark 7th November Lotto Changes

Updated: Wednesday 21st October 2020

A £20 million jackpot is guaranteed to be given away in a Lotto Must Be Won draw on Saturday 7th November. The special event is being held to mark changes to Lotto, including a brand new prize for players who match two numbers in Must Be Won rolldown draws.

Changes to Must Be Won Draws and Rolldowns

The most significant change to come into effect from 7th November is an additional £5 cash prize for anyone who matches two numbers when a Must Be Won jackpot rolls down. Winners in that prize tier currently get a free Lucky Dip for the next Lotto draw and do not see any additional benefits when the jackpot rolls down. Under the new rules, those players would receive £5 on top of the free ticket.

To fund that, the amount of extra money that each prize tier receives when a jackpot rolls down will change as follows:

Prize Category Percentage of Jackpot prior to 7th November Percentage of Jackpot from 7th November
Match 5 + Bonus 3% 3%
Match 5 6% 5%
Match 4 17% 7%
Match 3 74% 85%

The funds needed to pay out the Match 2 cash prize will be taken from the rolled down jackpot first, and then the remaining money will be split according to the percentages in the table. It means that winners in the Match 3 to Match 5 + Bonus tiers will receive less than they do now, but around one million more players will receive a cash prize whenever the jackpot rolls down.

Must Be Won draws occur after the jackpot rolls over for five consecutive draws or when the National Lottery holds special promotional draws, such as the upcoming one on 7th November. If no one matches all six numbers in a Must Be Won draw, the jackpot rolls down to be split between winners in other prize tiers.

Changes to Be Marked by Guaranteed £20 Million Jackpot

The new rolldown rules could be demonstrated in the first draw they’re in effect, as a special £20 million Must Be Won draw will take place on 7th November to mark the changes to the game. That means if the jackpot rolls down, players in the Match 2 tier will receive a £5 cash prize for the first time ever. Rolldown funds for the other prize tiers will depend on how many Match 2 winners there are.

There were 1.6 million Match 2 winners in the recent £20 million Must Be Won draw on 5th September. Under the new rules that would mean around £8 million of the rolled down jackpot would be used to pay out the £5 prizes, leaving £12 million to be shared between the other prize tiers.

Should anyone match all six numbers to hit the jackpot, the other prize payouts will remain the same as in a standard draw, so Match 2 winners will receive the free Lucky Dip but no cash prize.

To enter the special Must Be Won draw and play for a share of the guaranteed £20 million jackpot, just buy a ticket for the Lotto draw on 7th November, either in-store or online. The winning numbers from the draw will be added to the Lotto Results page straight after they have been confirmed, along with confirmation of whether the jackpot was won or rolled down.
