UK EuroMillions Winner Claims £52 Million Prize

Updated: Monday 23rd July 2018

A EuroMillions jackpot prize worth almost £52 million which was won on Friday 28 July has now been claimed, almost a week later, by a UK player. The prize puts the lucky winner on a similar financial footing as musician Ed Sheeran, who is worth an estimated £52 million, as well as footballer Gareth Bale, who boasts a £54 million fortune.

Whilst a week isn’t a particularly long time to wait for a lottery jackpot winner to come forward, lottery organisers know that any delay in claiming can increase the chances of the winner losing their ticket and possibly even failing to make their claim at all. That being the case, the eventual claim of this significant prize last Friday will have been a big relief to everyone concerned.

The numbers which were drawn on Friday 28 July were 05, 09, 29, 31 and 41, along with the Lucky Star numbers 02 and 04, and the exact value of the jackpot which has now been claimed was £51,702,049.60. This was the fourth EuroMillions jackpot to be landed in the UK this year, and the prize will be paid to the winner just as soon as the claim has been verified.

Assuming that the claim is valid, the lucky winner will now have to decide whether or not to go public with their win. This is not an easy decision to make, as there are pros and cons on both sides.

As far as going public is concerned, the main advantage is that it clears up the ‘Who won?’ question very quickly, and allows the winners to get on with living their lives without having to worry about the press trying to track them down anyway. On the down side, revealing themselves to the public means that the winners will almost inevitably be sent a deluge of requests for financial assistance – often from complete strangers, and not just in the country, but also overseas.

One might think that anonymity would therefore be the better option but, whilst that decision would stem any initial flood of begging letters, it would also require the winners to be careful to keep a low profile in the future. Some tabloid newspapers actively encourage their readers to reveal if they know a lottery jackpot winner, so the winners would need to be very discreet about their win or risk being ‘outed’ in a manner which is completely outside their control.

Clearly, there is no right or wrong way to decide on the matter of going public, and you can read about some of the players who have already made that decision – and the consequences they experienced as a result – by visiting our Publicity page.

Whether the latest EuroMillions jackpot winner goes public or not remains to be seen, but we congratulate them on their £52 million success, and we wish them every happiness in the future. In the meantime, the next EuroMillions game this Tuesday 8 August will offer a double rollover jackpot which is expected to be worth around £32 million. Choose your numbers today to give yourself a chance of winning big, and good luck!
