Ayrshire Winner Finally Claims £57 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

Updated: Monday 14th September 2020

A EuroMillions player from South Ayrshire is finally set to receive the £57 million jackpot they won in March. The prize actually expired on Sunday night, but the lucky ticket holder beat the deadline to get their claim in on time and will now be paid out subject to final validation checks.

The identity of the winner has been a mystery since the draw on 17th March and may remain undisclosed forever even if they are able to get their money at last, as they have the right to remain anonymous if they would prefer not to go public.

The National Lottery received a claim on the jackpot back in April but ‘does not comment on the details of individual claims’, so no more information will be released about when the winner actually came forward without their permission. Arrangements are currently being made for the payment to be finalised.

All winners have 180 days from the date of a draw in which to make contact with the National Lottery. If they fail to meet this deadline, the money they would have received is instead transferred to the Good Causes Fund.

UK Winners in 2020

The latest winner, who matched the numbers 5, 7, 8, 16 and 20, plus Lucky Stars 2 and 12, has had to wait the entire duration of the claim period to get hold of their prize. The draw took place a week before the UK went into lockdown on 23rd March, and the location where the ticket was purchased was revealed at the start of April to help track down the winner.

There have been three other UK winners in 2020, including Ryan Hoyle of Rochdale, who landed a jackpot of £58 million on 17th April and said he had to celebrate at a two-metre distance from his brothers. Another UK player shared a £30 million jackpot with someone from France on 26th May, before a single ticket holder scooped £15 million three days later.

The record for the largest win ever seen in the UK was set last October when an anonymous player pocketed £170 million.
