Are We Heading for a Second Consecutive Lotto Jackpot Rolldown?

Updated: Monday 23rd July 2018

The Lotto jackpot rolled over for the eighth draw in a row on Wednesday 21 June, which means that the next game this Saturday 24 June will be worth an estimated £21.4 million. That figure is fast approaching the £22 million milestone, after which the jackpot can only roll over one more time, so it is not surprising that players are wondering if we could be heading for a second consecutive jackpot rolldown next week.

A jackpot rolldown occurs when no player matches all of the numbers required to win the top prize and no rollover is permitted by the rules. In that case, the jackpot is rolled down to the next highest prize tier which does have winners, which is normally (but not necessarily) the second tier.

The previous Lotto jackpot rolldown occurred on Wednesday 24 May, when the top prize was rolled down to the second tier, giving two players who had matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball the incredible sum of £12.75 million each. There have been no jackpot winners since, so if there is another jackpot rolldown next week, there will have been two consecutive rolldowns in the space of less than six weeks.

Of course, we would much prefer the Lotto jackpot to be won outright before we get to that point, because we haven’t seen anyone match all six main numbers since Saturday 15 April, which was 19 draws ago. Whatever happens this Wednesday, one player is guaranteed to become £1 million richer thanks to the Lotto Millionaire Raffle draw, and another 20 players will each win a guaranteed prize of £20,000 each in Lotto Raffle.

For players who like to base their selections on lottery statistics, we can tell you that the most overdue numbers as we head towards the £21.4 million Lotto game this Saturday are 33, 09, 40, 26, 25 and 32. The most common numbers at the time of writing are 54, 37, 14, 38, 41 and 34. Players who prefer to enter random selections can make use of our free Lotto Number Generator.

It will be interesting to see how Lotto players fare this Saturday, but don’t forget that EuroMillions this Friday (head this way to choose your numbers) will offer an even bigger quadruple rollover jackpot of around £64 million. Play both games to give yourself a chance of winning twice over, and good luck!
