A man from Nottingham who owns his own cleaning company has won a £1,925,567 share of the UK Lotto jackpot on Saturday 30 August, 2008. Alan Rowley, who is 65 years old, discovered his win early on Sunday morning as he checked his emails.
“I always check my emails first thing in the morning in case I have a customer enquiry overnight,” Alan explained. “However, my eye wandered to the email from the National Lottery. It said I was a winner so I thought I’d just won another tenner so I was stunned to read I had actually won £1,925,567 and should call the Lottery Helpline. I had to ask my wife to double check I was reading it correctly!”
Alan’s wife Sandra checked the email as the couple waited for the National Lottery Helpline to open at 8am. He was planning to visit the local barber shop before going out to a cleaning job, and after calling the helpline to make his claim the win was confirmed. Although he was in a state of shock, Alan remained a complete professional and went out to attend to the cleaning job exactly as planned.
Alan and Sandra have two adult sons, Jamie and Luke. Sandra was already due to retire in a few weeks and Alan summed up how they felt. “This win couldn’t have come at a better time for us,” he said.
This lottery winner and his family are now planning to enjoy a proper celebration before buying a new car and a holiday home in Kilnsea in Humberside.Published: Monday 8th September 2008
