Two Tickets Share Lotto Jackpot
Updated: Friday 18th September 2015
Two tickets shared the Lotto jackpot on Saturday 23 May, 2009 by successfully matching the numbers 12, 17, 32, 41, 44 and 48. The bonus ball was number 15, but the owners of the jackpot-winning tickets didn’t need it – they had each won a half-share of £7,812,154.
A further eight National Lottery players who had already matched five of the six main numbers matched the bonus ball as well to scoop a very nice consolation prize of £193,841 each. 501 more players matches five of six main numbers but not the bonus ball, and those players won £1,934 each. All told, the lottery results on Saturday night resulted in 572,789 prizes being won.
Because it’s a Bank Holiday weekend and most people are enjoying a well-earned rest from work, the identity of the two ticket-holders is not yet known. If the tickets were purchased by individuals then each one is now £3,906,077 richer. Of course, it could be that one or both of the tickets was purchased by a lottery syndicate, but even in that case the syndicate members would just under £4 million to share between them.
The Lotto jackpot has now been reset and the estimated jackpot for the next draw on Wednesday 27 May, 2009, is £2,400,000. Buy lottery tickets online and this time next week you could be celebrating a jackpot win of your own!Published: Monday 25th May 2009
