Two Share EuroMIllions Jackpot

Two Share EuroMIllions Jackpot

Two lucky lottery players shared the EuroMillions jackpot on Friday 21 August, 2009 after both players matched all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars. The EuroMillions results were 4, 7, 16, 31 and 42 and the Lucky Stars were 3 and 5. The EuroMillions jackpot was worth £65.4 million, so each of the winners won an equal share worth £32.7 million.

Ordinarily the story of two players winning a EuroMillions prize of £32.7 million each would be enough to make headline news all over the lottery-playing world, but the weekend media limelight was stolen by the SuperEnalotto jackpot in Italy when a single player scooped a jackpot worth £124.7 million.

The SuperEnalotto jackpot doesn’t receive much attention from UK lottery players for the simple reason that the SuperEnalotto is an Italian lottery. The last jackpot was won on 31 January, 2009, so the jackpot has been rolling over three times a week ever since.

That might sound like a lot of rollovers, but when you consider that the odds of winning the SuperEnalotto jackpot are just 1 in 622,614,630 it makes sense. The lucky winner who finally managed to land the monster SuperEnalotto jackpot despite the odds purchased his ticket – for just €2 – from a coffee shop in Bagnone, Tuscany.

All of this means that the record for the biggest single jackpot winner in Europe no longer belongs to EuroMillions but to SuperEnalotto, and the size of the jackpot win for the new record holder means that things are likely to remain that way for quite some time.

Back in the UK, no player managed to match the six main numbers that are required to win the Lotto jackpot, so we have a rollover jackpot worth around £7 million this Wednesday 26 August, 2009. Those of you who like to check the Lottery Statistics when choosing your numbers for the Lotto game will be interested to hear that the most overdue numbers at the time of writing are 3, 5, 14, 22, 30 and 44.

As always, you can buy lottery tickets online for both Lotto and for the next EuroMillions draw on Friday 28 August, 2009.
