Two Brits Share EuroMillions Jackpot
Two British EuroMillions lottery players made history on Friday 6 November when they won more than £91 million between them. Both of the jackpot winners have come forward to collect their share of the prize, which will be worth £45,570,836 per winner. At the time of writing, neither winning ticket holder had elected to go public, so we do not know if the tickets are owned by individuals or lottery syndicates. The biggest British winner of the EuroMillions game prior to this latest double-whammy was Angela Kelly, who won £35.4 million in August 2007.
We said last week that the massive multi-rollover jackpot would be popular, and we were right. Originally estimated to be worth around £90 million, staggering ticket sales (around three million tickets were sold every hour leading up to the draw, according to organisers) meant that the jackpot eventually had a value of £91,141,672.
If the two winners are individuals players then Friday's EuroMillions lottery results have catapulted them into the same wealth-league as veteran movie actor Michael Caine and Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans.
Although all of us are waiting for more news of the two lucky lottery winners to be released, we should not forget that there were plenty of other EuroMillions winners last Friday. Nine players (sadly, none of them in the UK) matched the five main numbers and one of the two Lucky Star numbers to win €582,616 each. Another 15 players matched the five main numbers only but still picked up €99,202 each. All told, there were 3,044,579 prizes won last Friday, giving plenty of players good reason to celebrate.
If you weren’t one of the lucky EuroMillions winners, or you won a modest prize and fancy seeing if your luck will stretch to an even bigger win, you can play for a EuroMillions jackpot of £13 million this Friday 13 November. Before then, a double Lotto rollover jackpot of £11 million is up for grabs on Wednesday 11 November.
We congratulate the two record-breaking EuroMillions jackpot winners and the other prize-winners who had a successful lottery weekend. As for everyone else, buy lottery tickets online and it could be your turn next!Monday 9th November 2009
