Three Tickets Share Lotto Jackpot!
Updated: Thursday 21st April 2016
Lotto players who were hoping to see someone win a second jackpot in as many draws were very well rewarded on Wednesday, because no fewer than three tickets matched all six main numbers to share a top prize of £2,187,078. That gave each winning player a personal share worth £729,026, and we can report that, in addition, over 1.21 million tickets won consolation prizes.
Regular readers who have grown accustomed to Lotto jackpots rolling over more often since the rule change last year may be surprised to hear that three players succeeded in matching all six main numbers, but that success was probably due to the fact that all of the numbers which were drawn fell in the ‘days-of-the-month’ range of 1 to 31. We mean that quite literally, because the Lotto results on Wednesday were 01, 07, 09, 10, 12 and 31, and the Bonus Ball was 28.
The down-side of all those numbers being in a rather predictable range was that there were more winners than usual at the lower levels too, and that reduced the values of the prizes paid. Seven tickets that matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball number won £7,135 each at the second tier, and at the third tier there were 336 tickets that won £156 each by matching five main numbers only.
There were 12,460 tickets that matched four main numbers to win £27 each at the fourth tier, and a guaranteed prize of £25 went to each of 167,741 entries that matched three main numbers. More than 1.05 million players matched two main numbers to win a free Lucky Dip entry for the next game.
All of the above meant that the biggest winner on Wednesday night was the player who matched the Lotto Millionaire Raffle number, which was JADE 8500 6183, to win a cool £1 million. Another 20 tickets won £20,000 each by matching one of the Lotto Raffle numbers, and the complete list of those can be found on our Lotto Results page.
The next Lotto jackpot this Saturday 23rd April will be worth an estimated £4 million, and we just might get to see the top prize landed for the third game in a row. Even if that doesn’t happen, there will be another guaranteed Lotto Millionaire Raffle winner, so someone will emerge from the game with millionaire status, regardless.
Of course, before we get to that brand new Lotto jackpot game, we first have an even bigger EuroMillions draw to enjoy this Friday 22nd April. The jackpot there will be worth around £24 million, and one player in the UK is guaranteed to win £1 million in the associated Millionaire Maker game.
