Syndicates are Winning
Updated: Friday 18th September 2015
It’s been a good time to be part of a lottery playing syndicate recently. In Sheffield, a group of 10 childminders won £2,077,095 from the Lotto draw, a syndicate of two friends from Stoke-on-Trent also won £2,077,095 and in Southampton, a 32-person works syndicate won £6,989,637.40 on the special Euromillions draw. Then a family syndicate of four people from Merthyr won £252,078.
In Sheffield, a group of 10 childminders won £2,077,095 from the Lotto draw on 29 September 2007. The group have played the lottery for three years and use a regular selection of numbers that were picked randomly (1,9,10,11,16,49). One of the syndicate members’ husbands had a dream a week ago that his wife had called him to say they’d won the lottery, and then they did! The advantage of a syndicate is that there are lots of you checking the numbers, so you shouldn’t miss out on a win. Each member received £207,709.
A syndicate of two friends from Stoke-on-Trent also won £2,077,095 from the Lotto draw on 29 September 2007. They bought their Lucky Dip ticket at a Post Office in Crewe, but Martin Fielding was doing a gig on the Saturday night so he did not see the draw. Fellow syndicate member Alan Butt did watch the draw and saw that they had won, so he left a message on Martin’s phone. He received the good news during the band’s break, but still went back on stage grinning madly!
In Southampton, a 32-person works syndicate won £6,989,637.40 on the special Euromillions draw on 28 September 2007. With each member receiving £218,426.16 there are all sorts of cars, holidays and DIY projects ready to be paid for. Syndicate leader Callum Neale was told to guard his ticket with his life when he handed it in to be checked to see if it was a winner (so he bought a fire-proof safe to put it in!). This was the first Euromillions ticket the syndicate had bought, and they used the Lucky Dip facility to give them the numbers 22,30,34,35,44 (Lucky Stars 4,5). Two other syndicates, a family of six, and a family of two won £6,989,637 jackpots as well in this draw.
On Wednesday 26 September 2007 a family syndicate of four people from Merthyr won £252,078. Two of the family, mum Sharon and daughter Kirsty work at the Londis store where they bought their winning ticket. They’ve played the same set of numbers since the lottery began, 2,8,16,24,32,41. A new house, a car and a shopping spree should see most of the winnings well spent.Published: Friday 9th November 2007
