Skydiver Wins a Million

Skydiver Wins a Million
Updated: Friday 10th October 2014

A skydiver who used to jump for the National Skydiving Team of Bulgaria won a sky-high prize of £1,000,000 in the Millionaire Raffle game on Tuesday 6 September and to mark the occasion he decided to make a jump with the winning ticket on his person. George Traykov, who is 43 and lives in Ilford, Essex, only plays the EuroMillions game when the jackpot reaches a certain level, and he didn’t think to check his Millionaire Raffle number for the 6 September draw until the recent spate of rollovers had settled down. When he did get around to checking his ticket, he discovered that the number SLW245268 had won him a million!

Jumping from a plane with a lottery ticket worth seven figures isn’t the most common way of celebrating a big win, but for George it was a perfectly appropriate thing to do. Before he could do that, however, he first he had to stock the fridge at the airfield with plenty of beers.

“It’s a tradition at the airfield that anyone who reaches a milestone such as their hundredth jump, must buy everyone a beer,” George explained. “I figured that jumping with a million pounds must be worth a beer! The jump has been recorded in the log book as a ‘great jump with million pound EuroMillions ticket in my pocket.’ I’m guessing this is a first for the skydiving community!”

George, who left his home country of Bulgaria in 1995 to live in the UK, says that his Millionaire Raffle win will help to provide a private education for his daughter and also support her as she too works on her skydiving skills.

“I generally consider myself lucky in life,” he said. “I have a beautiful daughter, great home and a job I truly love, working with really great people at a private hospital, Princess Grace, in London, so life is already good but hopefully it will make a huge difference for my daughter. We had been discussing options for paying for her to attend private school, this can now happen. It also means that we can continue with her skydiving training. Although only 12 she is already ‘jumping’ at a wind tunnel in Milton Keynes and has a jump trainer.”

It is always good to hear about Millionaire Raffle winners because sometimes their success tends to get overshadowed by jackpot-winners in the main EuroMillions game. Talking of which, there is a EuroMillions jackpot of around £12 million to play for this evening (Tuesday 11 October) so if you fancy having a go at that – and at the same time giving yourself a chance of becoming the next Millionaire Raffle winner – buy your lottery tickets online and good luck!
