The Thunderball jackpot rolled into the South Yorkshire town of Rotherham on Saturday 03 January, 2009, making Maureen Bywater some £250,000 richer for the new year. Maureen, who is 64 years old, bought her Thunderball ticket after reading a promising horoscope in her newspaper.
Maureen bought a Lucky Dip ticket, which randomly generates numbers for the player, but she was surprised to note that the numbers picked for her were all birth dates of people in her family. This, in addition to the positive horoscope she had read previously, gave Maureen hope that she was in for some good old Lottery luck.
“I hoped that this would be a lucky week for me,” said this lucky lottery winner, “especially when I saw that all the numbers on my Lucky Dip ticket happened to be the birthdays of my husband, my son, my niece and two of my grandsons. I hope this is the start of a great year for me and my family.”
Maureen and her husband Eddie, who is 67, now plan to enjoy a summer holiday in Benidorm in Spain. They will also be purchasing new headstones for the graves of their parents – something that they have wanted to do for some time. Having played the lottery since it was launched in November 1994, they intend to continue playing in the future.Published: Monday 12th January 2009
