Romford Tops the List of Luckiest Lottery Postcodes
The luckiest lottery postcodes in Britain have been revealed by the National Lottery after the operator analysed the addresses of every major prize winner in the 22 years since Lotto was launched. Topping the list is RM, covering areas in Essex such as Romford, Dagenham, Hornchurch, Grays and Tilbury, where more awards of £50,000 or larger have been distributed per head of population than anywhere else in the country.
The TS region came in second, proving the players of Hartlepool and Middlesbrough are onto a good thing, with WA in third, covering Warrington, Altrincham and St Helens in the north west. The full list of lucky lottery areas, according to data from winners who chose to remain anonymous as well as those who went public, is as follows:
- Romford (RM)
- Cleveland (TS)
- Warrington (WA)
- Liverpool (L)
- Ilford (IG)
- Medway (ME)
- Newport, Wales (NP)
- Newcastle upon Tyne (NE)
- Wigan (WN)
- Harrow (HA)
The figures also looked into postcodes’ performances over the past two years to find out which areas were doing their best to catch up with the big hitters, and TR, which represents Truro in Cornwall, was seen to have produced the most big winners per head in that timeframe. PA and KA, centred around Paisley and Kilmarnock respectively, came in second and third.
The city of Leicester has had plenty to shout about recently, with its football team defying the odds on a fairytale journey to winning the Premier League, and it seems like some of the luck has rubbed off on its lottery fans. There were 63 lottery awards of £50,000 or more paid out to residents in the LE postcode over the past 24 months, more than anywhere else in the UK. However, the sprawling B postcode, which covers a large tranche of Birmingham and the West Midlands, continues to rule supreme when it comes to creating big winners. There have been 1,180 Brummies who grabbed major payouts in the history of the National Lottery, with 127 of the 4,250 millionaires created in that time hailing from the B postcode area.
Tonight’s Lotto draw will see at least two more millionaires made as Lotto Millionaire Raffle continues to offer double top tier prizes for the whole of May, while you could also snag yourself a £6.1 million jackpot in the main game. Lotto tickets are on sale online or from authorised retailers across the UK and you might want to consider a quick trip to Romford, Truro, Leicester or Birmingham if you think you can make it before sales close at 7:30pm. Good luck!Wednesday 18th May 2016
