Powerball Steals Lottery Limelight
Two players won the UK Lotto jackpot on Saturday 18 May, but the lottery limelight was well and truly stolen by the Powerball game in the USA, which saw its biggest ever jackpot landed by a single ticket. Saturday’s Powerball jackpot was worth $590.5 million, beating the previous record of $587.5 million, and the winning ticket was sold in the state of Florida. Whilst we applaud that fantastic success, we would also like to congratulate the two players who shared a jackpot worth £3,753,310 in our own Lotto game.
The Lotto results on Saturday 18 May were 03, 05, 24, 31, 48 and 49, and the Bonus Ball number was 15. Each of the two tickets that matched all six main numbers is now worth £1,876,655, which should be more than enough to give their owners the kind of financial freedom that appeals to all lottery players. A second tier prize of £115,486 went to each of 10 tickets that matched five of the main numbers plus the Bonus Ball.
468 Lotto tickets matched five main numbers only to win a third tier prize of £1,542 each, and another 505,587 tickets won smaller prizes of £61 or £10 each by matching four or three main numbers, respectively. The total value of prizes landed in the Lotto game on Saturday night was £12,010,523, and the next jackpot this Wednesday 22 May will be worth around £2,000,000.
There was no top prize winner in the Health Lottery game on Saturday, but the new prize structure really came into its own by creating more than 12,400 consolation prize winners. The numbers drawn were 09, 10, 13, 15 and 40, and the Bonus Ball number was 02.
All of that action took place just one day after the EuroMillions jackpot rolled over for the sixth draw in a row on Friday 17 May. The main numbers drawn on Friday were 06, 20, 24, 25 and 50, and the Lucky Star numbers were 09 and 10. One UK player was among nine winners at the second tier prize level, and he or she won £137,973 by matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star. The total number of prizes won was 2,840,888, and the combined value of cash won by UK players was £3,699,162. Another player won £1,000,000 by matching the Millionaire Raffle number VMT980499.
The top prize in the next EuroMillions game this Tuesday 21 May will be worth a fantastic £60 million, so if the headlines about the record-breaking Powerball draw have given you an appetite for winning a supersized jackpot of your own, head this way to buy your tickets online. Good luck!
