Portugal Does the EuroMillions Double!
Updated: Wednesday 9th April 2014
Forget about the Harlem Shake or going all Gangnam Style in the streets, the big craze to watch out for in Europe right now is back-to-back EuroMillions jackpot wins. Portugal got the latest trend off to a great start last night when one player scooped £13,135,500 – a win that came just a few days after one other Portuguese ticket landed the Friday jackpot of £45,058,160. The odds of someone in Portugal being able to make it three from three this Friday are slim, but every ticket has exactly the same chance of succeeding in the EuroMillions game, so it could happen!
The EuroMillions results for Tuesday 12 March were 02, 04, 10, 22 and 50, with the numbers 05 and 08 appearing as the Lucky Stars. The Lucky Star number 08 had also been drawn in the previous game on Friday 8 March, but that was the only repeating number in the set.
Five tickets matched all five main numbers as well as one Lucky Star number to win a second-tier prize of €196,292, but none of those tickets were bought in the UK. Nine tickets matched five main numbers only to secure a prize of £22,522 at the third-tier, and we are pleased to report that one of those tickets had been entered by a UK player.
The success of UK participants grew from there, with 10 of 66 winning tickets at the fourth-tier level having been bought by players in this country. The fourth-tier prize on Tuesday was worth £1,535 to anyone who was able to match four main numbers as well as both of the Lucky Stars. The total number of prizes won was 1,859,826, and total amount of cash won by UK players was £1,400,587. Add on an extra £1 million which went to the player who matched the Millionaire Raffle number GHH571458 and last night wasn’t bad at all!
Although the next EuroMillions jackpot this Friday will once again be worth around £13 million, it is worth pointing out that there will be a guaranteed €100 million jackpot to play for on Friday 22 March. At current conversion rates, that will give UK players a jackpot of around £80 million to pursue, and the good news is that you can guarantee your participation by purchasing tickets right now. Simply enter your numbers here for the next three draws in advance and if you don’t land the jackpot this Friday or next Tuesday you just might make it third time lucky and bring down £80 million on Friday 22 March! Enjoy the games and good luck!
