Plumbers Tap Into Lotto Jackpot

Plumbers Tap Into Lotto Jackpot

A syndicate of employees at Graham's Plumbers' Merchants in Galashiels will have an extra special Christmas this year after landing a share of the Lotto jackpot on Saturday 11 December. The jackpot for that particular draw was worth £4,637,145, but there were five winning tickets in all, so the share won by the syndicate was worth £927,429. There are eight members of the syndicate, so each one will be entering the festive season with £115,928 more in their bank account than they had just a couple of weeks ago.

The syndicate has been playing the Lotto game ever since it started in November 1994. Although the line-up of members has changed over the last 16 years, their approach to the game has remained constant, with the syndicate purchasing four lines for each Wednesday and Saturday draw. Two of those lines consist of regular selections and the other two lines consist of random selections generated by the Lucky Dip option. The current syndicate members are Mike Ormiston, Laura Ormiston, Neil Tough, Michael Hyslop, Malcolm Brown, John Cranston, Lawrence McPherson and John Grieve.

"We're just waiting for it to sink in!" said Mike, who is the syndicate leader as well as the branch manager of Graham's Plumbers' Merchants in Galashiels. "Malcolm checked the numbers on Saturday night and called my house straight away. My daughter Laura tracked me down while I was having a  quite drink in the pub – which soon turned into a bigger celebration with the friendly locals."

The timing of this win couldn't have been much better, with Christmas looming. “It’s certainly going to make Christmas a lot more fun this year," Mike said. "We’ve already had our staff party in the local Indian restaurant so we’ll be focusing on our families. My eldest son is going travelling and leaves on Christmas morning so we’ll be having our family celebration the night before. I think we’ll crack open a few bottles of champagne.

“I know everyone is thinking about what to do with their winnings. We’re all keen to help our families and buy a few treats – like a car or a holiday. However we won’t be giving up our day jobs! You’ll find me manning the branch in between Christmas and New Year.”

We congratulate the syndicate on their success and remind everyone else that there is still time to have a lottery-winning Christmas. Purchase lottery tickets online today and you can play for a midweek Lotto jackpot of £2.4 million on Wednesday 22 December as well as a £13 million EuroMillions lottery jackpot on Friday 24 December. There are also 25 Millionaire Raffle prizes of £1 million each to be won by UK EuroMillions players on Friday, so there is everything to play for. Good luck!
