Persistence Pays for Lotto Jackpot Winner

Persistence Pays for Lotto Jackpot Winner

Winning a lottery jackpot isn’t something that you can predict. Some players have managed to beat the odds on their very first attempt, whilst others have been playing for years and have yet to win more than a handful of modest consolation prizes. The good news is that the next draw always brings with it the possibility of a life-changing jackpot win, so there is a lot to be said for being persistent. Just ask John and Pauline Alford of Trowbridge, who have been playing the Lotto since its launch in November 1994 and finally struck gold on Saturday 13 April 2013!

People say that success comes in threes, and that was certainly the case for John and Pauline a couple of Saturdays ago. They won a £2,000 prize from a lottery scratch card, followed by a £5 win in the Thunderball game. After that came the biggest win of all, because the couple matched all six main numbers in the Lotto draw! There were four jackpot-winning tickets that night, but a Lotto jackpot value of £5.74 million gave each of the winners a very handy £1,437,220.

The Trowbridge couple usually play every Saturday Lotto draw and buy two Lucky Dip tickets in each. John checked his numbers on the morning of Sunday 14 April, and initially he found the situation hard to believe. ‘It was one of those moments when time stands still and you find it difficult to understand what’s going on,’ he said.

John and Pauline are now planning to spread their new-found wealth around among their family, and with three children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, it’s a pretty big family! The first thing on the shopping list is a huge family trip to Florida. ‘We’re a very close family and I’ve always dreamed of taking everyone to Florida and going on the roller coasters,’ John explained. ‘I’m a big kid at heart.’

After that, John and Pauline intend to buy themselves a new home and John wants a new car. ‘Something big enough to be able to transport the grandchildren around in,’ he said. ‘It’s all a dream come true.’

We congratulate John and Pauline on their massive success, and we hope they have a great time with their family in Florida. John’s experience demonstrates how sticking with something for the long term can pay big dividends, so if you haven’t yet won a big prize playing your chosen lottery games, don’t lose heart – click here and your life-changing jackpot win might be just around the corner!
