Online Lottery Luck

Playing the Lottery online for the very first time proved to be lucky for a player who won a £2,855,067 jackpot on 12 March. Peter Heal, from Devon, selected his numbers based on his call sign at Western Power Distribution (where he works as a cable laying supervisor), the day and month of his birthday, his lucky number and one final random selection.
The numbers 1, 13, 26, 38, 41 and 47 were drawn and Peter matched every single one of them, beating odds of 1 in 13,983,816 to win more than £2.8 million.
Although he has played the lottery for years, this was the first time that Peter had bought his tickets online. It was also the first time that he had experienced the positive shock of winning a major prize.
Talking about his winning numbers, Peter said, “I was at home when I checked them. It's been quite a shock to the system and I'm still not sure whether I am going to continue working.”
What Peter is sure about is buying a second home in France. “My parents have retired to France, in the Poitou-Charentes region south of the Loire,” he said, “so it would be nice to have a property over there, perhaps one with a vineyard. I'll keep my house in Newton Abbot though and I'm looking to get a new car.”
Buying UK lottery tickets online is becoming increasingly popular, and enables players to participate in a number of lottery games worldwide. As Peter Heal has discovered, you have just as much chance of winning by playing online as you do when buying tickets in person – and you don’t risk losing your tickets on the way home!Published: Thursday 20th March 2008
