New Motorbike for Bonus Ball Winner
Updated: Wednesday 23rd April 2014
A Lotto player from Rotherham who landed a second-tier prize of £174,655 by matching five main numbers and the Bonus Ball in the game on Saturday 27 August plans to use some of his cash to pay for a new motorbike. David Higginbottom had already ordered his new Suzuki bike before the win, but having an extra six figures in his bank account means that he will now be able to enjoy it without worrying about how much it cost. The Lotto results on 27 August were 6, 7, 29, 32, 41 and 46, with 49 being drawn as that all-important Bonus Ball.
Years ago you needed to read a newspaper or look at Teletext to check lottery results, but now that the internet is so widely accessible you can check them from almost anywhere. David used his phone to check his numbers, and in doing so he inadvertently set himself up for a sleepless night.
“I was getting ready to go up to bed when I decided to check the Lotto results,” David said. “When I realised that I’d won I was in state of shock - I told my wife Donna who just didn’t believe me!”
The shock wasn’t something that dissipated quickly, so David and Donna decided to take a short drive and confirm their win via a third party. “We were both wide awake then so we decided to get in the car and head straight to our local petrol station to make sure that we really had won,” David explained. “They confirmed that we had a winning ticket and we couldn’t believe it! We were so excited and shocked that we didn’t get to sleep until 4am in the end!”
The couple have a four year old daughter and are expecting a new arrival later this year. “The win couldn’t have come at a better time really,” David said. “I’ve just celebrated my birthday and with a new baby on the way, the money will really help us out. I’ve also been able to buy my Suzuki motorbike, which I had already ordered before I won, but the win means I can really enjoy it now!”
We congratulate David and Donna on their win and wish their family every success and happiness in the future. As for the rest of us, there is a £12 million EuroMillions jackpot to have a go at this Friday 16 September and a Lotto rollover jackpot of £6.5 million up for grabs on Saturday.
