National Lottery Sports Grant for Tyne and Wear
A £32 million National Lottery Grant has been awarded to a young people's sports initiative on Wearside. The new program, called Sportivate, will give 14 to 25-year-olds the opportunity to take part in up to 8 weeks of sports coaching. The project aims to encourage youngsters who don't play sports to take it up and to try at least one activity. £650,000 has been earmarked to help over 7000 people to sample dance, athletics, swimming and more.
David Marrin, assistant director at Tyne and Wear Sport claims that the program will provide the chance for teenagers and young adults to participate in a range of physical activities across the region.
He says “It is hoped that many of those that participate in the programme will go on to join local sports clubs, and increase their activity levels in their own time, as that is in essence of what the programme is all about.”
Great news for participants who stick with their sports-- they will be eligible for Olympic and Paralympic tickets. To get their hands on them, participants must complete the entire course, missing not more than one session, and continue their chosen sport for a minimum of three months.
In other lottery news, the Euromillions rolled over once again, putting this Friday's jackpot at an estimated £80 million. Buy your tickets online the easy way and never miss out on a chance to win a fortune again. Choose five numbers between 1 and 50, and two Lucky Star numbers between 1 and 11. Good luck!
