Lucky Dip Lands Lotto Jackpot
Updated: Tuesday 27th January 2015
A Lucky Dip ticket purchased from a Co-operative store in Alford, Scotland, lived up to its name by landing a £4,460,495 jackpot for its owners in the Lotto draw on Saturday 17 April. The lottery results for that draw were 03, 10, 29, 31, 36 and 44, and the Bonus Ball was 45, but Robert and Susan McIntosh didn’t discover that they had matched all six numbers – or any of them, in fact – until Sunday night. That meant the couple had lived all day Sunday as unsuspecting millionaires, and when they eventually realised that they had landed a big win their excitement was almost palpable.
“I didn’t watch the draw and forgot about the ticket until the next evening,” Robert explained. “I flashed up Ceefax and slowly realised that all my numbers were there. I kept staring at them and then at the ticket. I ended up on my knees right in front of the TV just getting closer and closer to the screen.”
Susan was sitting at the family in the same room as Robert when he was checking his ticket, so the couple did the sensible thing and decided to check their numbers online. The resulting shouts of joy when their double-checking confirmed their win brought their three daughters downstairs asking what all the fuss was about.
“We then just spent ages, checking and rechecking the numbers, with each of us saying it wasn’t us and not daring to believe that the whole amount was ours,” Robert continued. “We all eventually went to bed but I don’t think any of us slept a wink.”
Now that the family has had a little time for the impact of their lottery win to sink in, they are thinking about the various ways in which they will be able to put their fortune to good use. Fortunately, the couple have been dreaming of something that they would like to do for quite a while, and it relates to their enthusiasm for showing their three Akita dogs.
“This gives us a wonderful opportunity to have all the family together and happy,” Robert said. “We can have the house we have always dreamed of and the space we need for our dogs. It has been a hobby we have really enjoyed but you need a lot of money to travel to all the shows across the country and show your dogs. Susan has already decided we’ll be getting more dogs and we’ll definitely be spending more time showing them. We have a puppy who has already won a best in show so we can’t wait to get them out more.”
We congratulate the McIntosh family members on their big win, which demonstrates once again that a Lucky Dip entry has just as much chance of winning a jackpot than any other set of numbers. You can enter Lucky Dip lines for both the Lotto game this Wednesday 28 April and also for the EuroMillions game (which boasts a £51 million triple rollover jackpot) this Friday 30 April. You can buy lottery tickets online for both games, so help yourself today and good luck!Published: Tuesday 27th April 2010
