Lottery Players Cruise to the Future

Lottery Players Cruise to the Future

A couple of lottery players from the village of Northowram in West Yorkshire are planning to treat themselves to a cruise after winning a quarter share of the Lotto jackpot on Saturday 26 March. The jackpot for that draw was worth £3,953,492, so Mark and Penny Sutcliffe won themselves a fortune worth £988,373, and as well as a cruise, their shopping list also includes a new house and a new car. The lottery numbers which made this list possible were 02, 09, 16, 21, 31 and 44, and it was Mark who first discovered the win.

“I was out walking our dog Maisy when Mark rang to tell me the news,” Penny explained. “He was checking the numbers on teletext and I rushed straight home. I was quite calm really.”

That sense of calm soon disappeared when Penny spoke to the lottery organisers to confirm the win, and was quickly replaced with the kind of excitement that all Lotto jackpot winners experience.

“We usually play every week but I do sometimes forget to put our numbers on, in fact I forgot to play the week before,” Penny said. “Thank goodness I remembered this week!”

Although taking a cruise is the first item on their shopping list, the jackpot-winning couple have plenty of other ideas about how they intend to enjoy their fortune. “We’re going to buy a new house and we’re looking forward to house hunting over the coming weeks,” Penny said. “I’d also like to go to New York for a long weekend and hit the shops.”

This win comes after years of playing the lottery, as Mark explained: “We’ve played the same numbers since the National Lottery started. Our first line is a combination of family birthdays and significant numbers and the line we won with is one number added to every date. I’ve wanted to restore my old Golf for ages and now I finally can. Let’s hope we have a good summer so I can enjoy it with the roof down!”

We congratulate Penny and Mark and hope that life as lottery jackpot winners is every bit as satisfying as they want it to be. The Lotto jackpot on Wednesday will be worth around £2.4 million, and if that doesn’t oblige there is a EuroMillions jackpot of around £13 million to play for on Friday. Good luck!
