Lottery Luck in Bolton

Lottery Luck in Bolton

There is plenty of lottery luck in Bolton if recent results are anything to go by. Just recently Brian Caswell of Bolton made the headlines when he won a £25 million share of the EuroMillions jackpot. And now another Brian of Bolton has won a lottery prize, because Brian Merga and his wife Susan landed more than £68,000 in the Lotto draw of Wednesday 10 June, 2009.

The exact amount of the prize won by Brian Merga was £68,201, and that was achieved by matching five main Lotto numbers and the bonus ball. Brian, who is 55 years old, works as a hospital porter for the Royal Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. His wife Susan is a healthcare assistant at the same hospital. She says that Bolton is proving to be one of the best places for lottery players right now.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard someone else had won the lottery from Bolton,” Susan said. “I remember thinking that it must be the luckiest place in the country at the moment. Although our win isn’t quite as big, we still couldn’t quite believe it when we found out we’d won.”

Although Brian and Susan won their prize on Wednesday, the couple didn’t discover that they had won until Susan checked the lottery results the next day.

“I checked the results on Teletext on Thursday morning and immediately called my husband at work to tell him we’d got five numbers and the bonus ball,” Susan explained. “He wanted to come home straight away but I managed to calm him down and called Camelot to find out how much we had won first. The most we have ever won before is £100, so £68,000 is a very nice amount of money.”

Brian and Susan have are currently helping to plan a wedding for their daughter Denise, and they intend to throw a family party with their son Paul and their grandson who is two years old. The couple will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary in November and may well use some of their lottery prize money to buy a dream holiday.

“We are not sure where we want to go yet,” Susan said. “We just know it will be somewhere hot and sunny. We’re not going to go wild, we just want to treat our family and put most of the money away for our retirement.”
