Lorry Driver Scoops Second Big Lottery Win
A lorry driver has won £1 million in the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker draw, almost exactly four years after pocketing a Lotto prize of more than £55,000. Stuart Powell of Featherstone in South Staffordshire, intended to buy a ticket for the draw on Friday 20th November, but was accidentally issued with one for Tuesday 24th by the shop assistant at a Co-op in Lichfield. As luck would have it, he matched the winning code in the Tuesday draw and became an instant millionaire.
Stuart admitted he had spent the weekend cursing the bungling cashier because he had wanted a shot at the jackpot of £119 million on the Friday. He told the press, "I thought I had bought a Lucky Dip for that Friday (November 20) but the lady in the shop got her dates mixed up. I'm so glad she did. I was really annoyed about it.”
He found out the good news after ringing wife Denise from his night shift in Birmingham. She checked the numbers while he was on the phone, initially thinking they had won just £2.50. In fact, they had won the supplementary Millionaire Maker game for which one entry is generated whenever you play a line in the main EuroMillions draw. Take a look at the Millionaire Maker section to find out how you too could bag a cool £1 million.
The 50-year-old’s previous win came on his birthday, Wednesday 30th November 2011, when he matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball in the Lotto draw to collect £55,464. Of his first stroke of good fortune, he said “I gave all of it to my children and wife and I intend to do exactly the same with this million. I'm going to buy the kids a house each and my elderly father a car. Denise wants a Range Rover Evoque. I'm not bothered as long as they're happy.” However, he has earmarked one potential gift to himself from the seven-figure sum - he intends to buy a new nail gun from B&Q for £38!
