Londonderry Lottery Update

Londonderry Lottery Update

On Tuesday we brought you breaking news about a County Londonderry Lotto Winner who scooped over £4.5 million when his six numbers came up in the Lotto draw on Saturday 1 August, 2009. We can now tell you that Seamus Duffy has officially gone public with his story, so we are able to bring you all of the details that were not previously available.

We knew that Seamus Duffy lived in County Durham, but we can now add that the lottery winner comes from the Greysteel area. Seamus has been unable to work for the past twelve months or so because of arthritis, and the win on Saturday came as a result of him buying a Lucky Dip ticket. He discovered his win when checking the lottery results in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“I was watching a film on television at around two o’clock on Sunday morning when I decided to check my numbers,” Seamus explained. “I thought I was seeing things when my six numbers came up on the screen and I just couldn’t believe it. My partner, Carmel, was fast asleep and I woke her to double check – and there was no mistake.”

Seamus has six children who are all in their late teens or twenties. He also has eight siblings. It is therefore no surprise that he intends to share some of his prize money with his loved ones. “To be honest I’ve been in a bit of a daze since the win and I obviously haven’t thought everything through,” he said. “But top of my list will be to help out the family and it will be terrific to be able to do it.

“I’ve had to be careful with money,” Seamus continued. “My one little luxury has been one ticket with my own numbers for the Wednesday and Saturday Lotto draws with a ‘Lucky Dip’ on a Saturday. I’ve won a number of £10 prizes and three weeks ago I won £88 for four numbers. I have been feeling very lucky - but I never thought it would be this lucky!”

Seamus and Carmel are now planning to take a holiday. “We might decide to go abroad,” Seamus said. “And if we do it will be the first time for me.”

We congratulate Seamus on his well deserved jackpot win and wish him a great time on holiday. As for the rest of us, we have a £35 million double rollover EuroMillions jackpot to look forward to on Friday 7 August and a £7 million Lotto jackpot on Saturday 8 August. Buy your lottery tickets online and you might be the next big winner!
