Jackpot Wins in UK and Ireland

Jackpot Wins in UK and Ireland

There were jackpot wins in the midweek Lotto games on both sides of the Irish Sea on Wednesday 18 April. Our own UK Lotto game offered a jackpot worth £1,712,180 and there were four winning tickets in all, so each of those is now worth £428,045. The fact that there were four jackpot winners in the UK game is probably due to all of the six main numbers falling within the range 07 to 28. The actual numbers drawn were 07, 08, 16, 22, 24 and 28, and the Bonus Ball was 48.

Five tickets matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball to win £105,364 each, which is almost a quarter as much as the jackpot-winners themselves. 508 tickets won £648 each by matching five main numbers only, and 408,867 tickets won either £30 or £10 each after matching four or three main numbers. Prizes can always be expected to weigh in at lower than average values when all of the Lotto numbers drawn belong to a fairly narrow range at the ‘days of the month’ end of the scale, so these payouts probably won’t have surprised those who play the game regularly.

In the Irish Lotto game it was a different story. The six main numbers drawn on Wednesday were 02, 14, 15, 19, 27 and 31, and the Bonus Ball was 07. Whilst all of those main numbers can definitely be classified as ‘days of the month’, the range 02 to 31 was wider than that in the UK Lotto game. This increased the chances of the jackpot being won by a single ticket, and that’s exactly what happened – one player won the entire jackpot of €4,411,240.

Just one ticket matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball in the Irish Lotto game, and that ticket won the standard second-tier prize of €25,000. 46 tickets won €1,336 each after matching five main numbers only and another 39,539 tickets won smaller consolation prizes by matching three or four main numbers, with or without the Bonus Ball.

Now that both Lotto jackpots have been won, they both start afresh this Saturday 21 April. The jackpot in the UK Lotto should be worth around £4.2 million and the jackpot in the Irish Lotto game will be worth €2 million guaranteed. Before either of those games we do of course have a EuroMillions rollover jackpot of around £21 million to play for on Friday.
