Heathrow Syndicate Lands Lotto Jackpot
Updated: Wednesday 16th September 2015
A syndicate of lottery players – most of whom work at Heathrow Airport - landed a half-share of the Lotto jackpot on Wednesday 20 July. The syndicate, which calls itself LHR 08 because there are eight members and most are based at London Heathrow, won with the numbers 06, 10, 15, 32, 42 and 49. The jackpot for that draw was worth £2,445,018, so the share won by the syndicate weighed in £1,222,509, giving each member £135,834.
The syndicate, which is led by Gerry McNamara, has been playing the Lotto game since 1994, and Gerry puts their success down to a combination of patience and his own lucky strategy.
“Friends and family always say if anyone is going to win the Lotto it’s me but I like to think it is my strategy that also had a role to play,” Gerry explained. “I always play last minute, I only bought the syndicate tickets for this draw at 7.26pm! Plus, the nine lines we currently play are those that I identified as the luckiest. I went online and cross-referenced the numbers to see those drawn most often and these lines reflect what I believe are our optimum chance of winning. Seems I was right!”
It’s an interesting approach, and if anyone reading this news item fancies giving it a go themselves then our Lottery Statistics page should prove useful, along with our archive of Lottery Results. In the meantime, let’s get back to our main story…
LHR 08 member Dean Ward is perhaps the one who values his participation in this lottery syndicate win the most. Dean doesn’t work at Heathrow, but joined the syndicate when one of the eight original members decided to discontinue playing. “I feel the luckiest of them all as I only joined the syndicate a year and a half ago,” Dean said. “I’ve always believed in Gerry and that he would win!”
Spending plans for the syndicate include settling mortgages, taking holidays and putting children through university. We congratulate the syndicate on its win and wish the eight members all the best for the future.
As for everyone else, there is a £24 million EuroMillions rollover jackpot to play for this Friday 29 July, as well as a £4.2 million jackpot in the Lotto game on Saturday. Buy your lottery tickets online today for both games and good luck!
