Full House for Lottery Player
A woman who experienced a particularly strong run of luck when playing bingo games at the house of a friend decided to buy herself a Lucky Dip for the Lotto game on Saturday 11 February – and won the £4.52 million jackpot as a result! Sheila Davidson, who is 53, had won bingo eight times at her friends house, and although they had been playing for fun only, her unusual streak of luck was enough to make her want to have a go at the lottery.
Sheila discovered her win by going online to check the lottery results in the early hours of Sunday morning after a night out, but at first glance she thought that her computer must have gone wrong, and so she rebooted it and tried again.
“On reading the numbers again, I thought I was going mad, so I woke my husband Duncan to check,” she explained. “But he wasn’t convinced either. It was now 2am and we were still in complete denial that we could be so lucky. So we got in the car and drove around Alford looking for my daughter. She was at a friend’s house, but of course came straight home when I told her the news. She checked them too and confirmed that we weren’t going insane. We had actually won the jackpot.”
The numbers that Sheila had won with were 01, 23, 24, 31, 45 and 49, and the jackpot was worth £4,520,123. “None of us slept that night,” Sheila said. “And it still hasn’t sunk in.”
Sheila has previously recovered from mouth cancer, and she intends to use some of her winnings to say thank you to the department that she credits with saving her life. “Now that I have some money, I really want to give something back to the Maxilliofacial Unit in the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary,” she said. “They helped me get better and without them, I wouldn’t be here today. Money would have been of no use to me if I didn’t have my health.”
Other spending plans include buying herself a new car, making sure that her husband gets to see Manchester United play at Old Trafford and treating their two children.
The next Lotto jackpot on Wednesday 22 February will be worth around £2.2 million, and there is a quad-rollover jackpot of around £45 million to play for in the EuroMillions game this Friday. Those of you who fancy your chances of striking it lucky – just as Sheila did – can buy lottery tickets online today and see what happens!
