Five Share A Jackpot
Updated: Tuesday 27th January 2015
It sounds like a hitherto unknown Enid Blyton novel, but Five Share A Jackpot is actually a summary of what happened in the Lotto draw on Saturday 22 August, 2008. After two draws without a top prize winner, five people matched all six main numbers to take an equal share of the £13,582,850 jackpot.
In addition to the five main winners, who each won £2,716,570, no less than eighteen players managed to match five main numbers and the bonus ball to win £87,170. Clearly, the August Bank Holiday has been very lucky for some, and the lottery jackpot has now been reset, with the estimated jackpot for Wednesday 17 August being £2.5 million.
The winning numbers on Saturday 22 August were drawn by the machine named Sapphire and were 9, 16, 23, 26, 27 and 42. The bonus ball was 44. Out of 869,506 prize winners in total, 306,944 of them succeeded with a Lucky Dip ticket.
Elsewhere, the EuroMillions lottery continued to elude top-prize hunters. No player managed to match all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars to land the jackpot, so the top prize rolls over for a fifth week running. The jackpot for the draw on Friday 29 August, 2008 is now expected to be worth around £70,000,000 (€88,000,000).Published: Monday 25th August 2008
