EuroMillions Player Wins a Million

EuroMillions Player Wins a Million

A EuroMillions player who participated in the draw that took place on New Year’s Eve ended up starting 2014 with a Millionaire Raffle prize worth £1,000,000, but she didn’t realise that fact until New Year’s Day. It was the festivities of the season that prevented 69 year old Vera Webber from checking her numbers promptly, but she got around to the task the next day and discovered that she was one of the 25 lucky winners. Unfortunately, she also assumed that her prize had a much lower value than it really did.

‘There were about twenty of us welcoming in 2014 and I have to admit, the following day I was feeling a touch jaded,’ Vera explained. ‘While I was pottering about later that afternoon I decided to check my Lucky Dip ticket online. I saw my numbers didn’t match so worked my way down to the Raffle selection, and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw mine matched one of the 25 winning lines. I must have looked about ten times before ringing my daughter, Julie, to get her to double check.’

Vera, who lives in South Ockendon, had confused the £1,000,000 Millionaire Raffle prizes with the Lotto Raffle prizes that are worth £20,000 each, so she was expecting her daughter to confirm a five-figure win. Of course, that didn’t happen, and Julie pointed out that her mother had in fact won herself millionaire status.

‘Ever since Julie told me how much I’d really won it has been a series of celebrations and good old fashioned knees up with my family,’ Vera said.  Part of that celebratory period included Vera sitting down with her family and telling them that she had won £1,000,000. She also announced that she intended to take everyone on holiday to Disneyland in Florida. ‘Being able to make that announcement was a feeling I’ll never forget,’ she explained, ‘but it took some convincing to get them to believe me. I think they thought I’d finally lost the plot!’

Vera has been a fan of Elvis Presley since she was a teenager, and has spent her adult life collecting memorabilia, even travelling as far as Graceland in the USA. Now that she has plenty of cash at her disposal, she is thinking seriously about visiting the Graceland home once again.

We congratulate Vera on her win and hope that she enjoys her time in South Ockendon, Memphis and wherever else she decides to go.
