EuroMillions Pays for Florida Holiday
All EuroMillions players dream of hitting the jackpot, but even if that doesn’t happen there is quite a bit of prize money on offer for coming close, as a couple from Wick in Scotland recently discovered. John and Angela Sutherland matched five main numbers and one of the two Lucky Stars in the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday 7 June, and they won £282,940 as a result. That is a fairly big pile of cash, and among other things it will be paying for the Sutherlands to enjoy a well-earned holiday in Florida.
John works off-shore as a mechanic and he left for work on the day of the draw. That meant the couple had to wait until he returned five weeks later to validate the win, and for Angela the time couldn’t pass quickly enough.
“My wife Angela checked our ticket the day after the draw, at which point I was working offshore,” John said. “When she called to tell me [that the ticket had won a second-tier prize] I just couldn’t believe it – I was in shock.”
Because she had to wait so long before the couple could make their claim, Angela had to be careful about keeping the winning EuroMillions ticket secure. “Those five weeks felt like the longest of my life,” she said. “I kept the ticket locked away in a safe, but kept going back to check the numbers again and again to make sure it was real. I told close friends and family, but it was only when John arrived back on shore it really sunk in we’d won. We were thrilled!”
John and Angela have three children and will be spending some of their winnings on a family holiday in Florida. Other plans include settling their mortgage, spending some cash on home improvements and buying a new car for Angela. As for work, John intends to continue in his role as an offshore mechanic.
“We’d never won anything before other than a flutter on the Grand National,” John said. “This win has enabled us to make plans we’d only ever dreamed of.”
We congratulate John and Angela and wish them all the best for the future. And for anyone out there who wouldn’t mind landing their own EuroMillions win, the jackpot in the next game on Friday 5 August will be worth around £23 million. Buy your lottery tickets online and if you don’t land the jackpot you could still win a hefty consolation prize just as the Sutherlands did! Good luck!
