EuroMillions Jackpot Expires Unclaimed

EuroMillions Jackpot Expires Unclaimed
Updated: Wednesday 9th April 2014

The EuroMillions jackpot prize of £63.8 million that was won by a UK player on Friday 8 June expired unclaimed at 11pm last night. That makes it the biggest ever unclaimed lottery prize in this country, and because the deadline has passed it would now be too late to claim the prize even if the owner were to find their ticket and present it to the relevant lottery officials. In short, a lottery ticket that was worth £63.8 million is now nothing more than a worthless piece of paper.

Although the jackpot winner won’t benefit one bit from their ability to beat odds of 1 in 116.5 million, the money landed won’t simply go to waste. On the contrary, every penny of the £63,837,547 prize, plus all of the interest that it has earned since the win occurred, will now be handed over to the fund for Good Causes. More than £29 billion has been raised for Good Causes since lottery games were launched in the UK in 1994, and this latest addition to the cash pot will no doubt serve some worthy project (or several) very well indeed.

This headline-grabbing unclaimed jackpot should also serve as a useful reminder that checking your lottery tickets and making any claim required is something that should be done as soon as possible after each and every draw. If you buy your lottery tickets online then you have far less to worry about because your entry is linked to your name and address, so you can be contacted if and when you win. But for offline players the situation is far more risky, and the importance of getting into the habit of checking the latest results promptly is something that cannot be overemphasised.

Whilst we’re on the topic of checking lottery results, the Lotto numbers for the midweek game on Wednesday 5 December were 03, 04, 14, 31, 48 and 49, and the Bonus Ball number was 45. No player won the £2.3 million jackpot and so the next jackpot this Saturday will be worth an estimated £6.4 million. There is also a EuroMillions jackpot of around £44 million to play for this Friday!

Check your tickets to find out if you won any prize at all in the Lotto game on Wednesday and if you did, be sure to claim it promptly. Then, when you are ready to enter your numbers for the EuroMillions and Lotto games that are coming up, visit this page to buy your tickets online and you can rest easy in the knowledge that if you hit a jackpot you’ll be notified so that your prize can be claimed straight away. Good luck!
