Ellesmere Port Jackpot
Updated: Monday 21st September 2015
Fourteen social club members from Ellesmere Port who play the UK Lotto as a lottery syndicate enjoyed a very wealthy Christmas after winning a jackpot worth £2,283,989 on Saturday 13 December, 2008.
The syndicate has been playing for three years, and despite the huge success it has now achieved, the players have every intention of continuing to play. Although the syndicate won their £2.28 million prize on Saturday 13 December, they didn’t find out about it until they checked the lottery results on the following Tuesday.
“When I was called and told that we had won, like the others, I just couldn’t believe it,” said syndicate member Michael Griffiths shortly after the win. “Now it is finally sinking in we are all looking forward to having an extra special Christmas this year – the win will really make a big difference to our lives.”
The syndicate spent the run-up to Christmas writing shopping lists that would have made Santa gasp. With each syndicate member some £163,142 richer, items of desire include holidays, new cars and plenty of treats for friends and family members.
The lottery isn’t the only thing that the fourteen Ellesmere Port syndicate members have in common, because all of them are horse racing enthusiasts and enjoyed nothing more than a day at the races even before they had picked their Lotto winner.
“In the New Year, no doubt we’ll organise a special day out or weekend away to the races to celebrate our win together,” Michael said.Published: Monday 29th December 2008
