Derren Brown Lottery Results
Millions of Channel 4 viewers will today be talking about the fact that they watched Derren Brown appear to predict 6 out of 6 lottery numbers on live television, but as we said in our previous Darren Brown Lottery Prediction piece, appearances can be deceiving. The lottery results that Derren Brown seemed to predict successfully for the Wednesday 9 September draw were 2, 11, 23, 28, 35 and 39. The bonus ball, which wasn’t part of Derren’s act, was 15.
If you have been wondering how Derren predicted six out of six lottery results then we can possibly help to clear up the matter – he didn’t. A prediction is what occurs when a person makes a statement in advance of an event, but Derren didn’t make a genuine prediction because he only revealed his ‘predicted numbers’ after the lottery draw had taken place.
Of course, it was still an incredible illusion, and quite how he got the winning numbers onto the balls before turning them around to the audience is a puzzler (we have our own theories about LCD technology being used to make the numbers appear on the balls, and that could well be wrong) but it certainly wasn’t a prediction.
The fact that last night’s lottery draw resulted in a rollover (we have a Lotto jackpot of around £7 million to play for this Saturday 12 September) proves that nobody bought a ticket with the six winning numbers, and on Friday at 9pm we’ll be tuning into the Derren Brown’s How to Win the Lottery show to put our curiosity to rest once and for all.
Whilst we’re here we will make our own prediction about Friday’s show. We predict that Derren will teach viewers how to perform a similar stunt by recording a lottery show, buying tickets using the winning numbers from that show, then discreetly playing the show to an unsuspecting friend and asking them to check the ticket as the recorded draw unfolds. This is a very simple version of what we believe Derren did in the first of his September Events.
We are hoping that all of this attention on the topic of lottery prediction leads to people becoming more aware of how a desire to believe in the irrational (such as the ability to predict the future) makes it possible for them to be exploited and/or to see things that they want to see, rather than what is actually real.
The bottom line is that lottery games really are unpredictable, but that’s what makes them so much fun. As well as the £7 million Lotto jackpot on Saturday, you have a £37 million EuroMillions jackpot to play for on Friday, so buy lottery tickets online today and enjoy the fact that your tickets have just as much chance of winning as any others!Thursday 10th September 2009
