Brit Lands £148m EuroMillions Jackpot
Updated: Monday 20th July 2015
A British lottery player landed the £148.6 million jackpot in the EuroMillions game on Friday 10 August, 2012, making them the second biggest UK lottery winners of all time. Colin and Christine Weir of Scotland won £161 million in the EuroMillions lottery in July 2011, which was the equivalent of €185 million, but the current exchange rates mean that Friday’s jackpot winner – who has already come forward to claim their prize – will get £148,656,000 even though the jackpot in euro terms had a higher value of €190 million.
The EuroMillions results for the game on Friday 10 August, 2012, were 11, 17, 21, 48 and 50, and the Lucky Stars were 09 and 10. Because the jackpot had reached its cap of €190 million in the previous draw, there was a lot more than that in the jackpot prize pool for Friday, so the extra cash rolled down to the second-tier, where 14 tickets matched five main numbers and one Lucky Star to win £1,994,323 each.
There were more than 7.74 million prize winners in the EuroMillions game, so plenty of players had something to celebrate over the weekend, including one player who won £1 million by matching the Millionaire Raffle number JDW016965. As for the jackpot winners themselves are concerned, the world is now waiting to find out if they will choose to go public or opt to remain anonymous. We’ll keep you posted!
The jackpot-winning trend continued on Saturday, when five tickets shared the Lotto jackpot of £3,809,685, giving each winner a prize of £761,937. The Lotto results were 01, 05, 14, 18, 34 and 44, and the Bonus Ball was 23. There were 16 tickets that matched five main numbers as well as the Bonus Ball to win £73,263 each, and 506 tickets won £1,447 each by matching five main numbers only. Another 548,837 tickets picked up prizes of £57 or £10 each by matching four or three main numbers.
We congratulate all of the players who managed to land a lottery prize at any point over the last few days, and the £148.6m EuroMillions jackpot winner in particular. And for everyone who didn’t win a major prize, we now have two brand new jackpots of around £11 million and £2.1 million to play for in the EuroMillions game on Tuesday and the Lotto game on Wednesday. Buy your lottery tickets online here and it could soon be your turn to celebrate a seven- or eight-figure win!
