£85 Million Pound Drop
Updated: Thursday 24th April 2014
Many players use the same numbers when they play the Lottery whether it’s Lotto, Euromillions or any other game available using birthdays and memorable dates to form their numbers. The problem with this is that you know the numbers off by heart and if you miss a week and they come out, imagine how devastated you would be. We recently received an email from a player who this happened to and it resulted in an £85 Million pound drop!
The player, who has asked to remain anonymous, bought her usual numbers for the Lotto on Monday 9th for the upcoming Wednesday and Saturday draws.
Her numbers were 3, 10, 15, 19, 25, 28 and 3, 10, 15, 25, 28 and 45. Then came the confusion, a play form was filled in with the numbers 3, 10, 15, 28, 45 and Lucky Stars 5 and 7 for the first ever Euromillions draw. At the counter she passed the slip to the assistant who had printed her a Fast Pay Card with these numbers on but no actual Euromillions ticket had been purchased. Her husband called as she was being served and told her “Don’t get the usual numbers, buy a Lucky Dip”. The Fast Pay Card went into her pocket and a Lucky Dip was purchased….
Here is the Fast Pay Card:
We’ve spoken to the couple in question and to say they are devastated would be an understatement. However throughout the conversation, whilst a few tears were shed, there was plenty of laughter too. The couple have already used these numbers for tonights draw; let’s hope that lightening does strike twice!
And remember, if they had got that tickets, tonight’s Euromillions jackpot would be £13 million instead of £107 million!
To avoid this kind of thing happening it’s worthwhile considering setting up a direct debit online with the National Lottery ensuring that you never forget to buy your tickets or miss out on a big win like this poor couple have. It is worth noting that currently only Lotto tickets are available to purchase using direct debit, for Euromillions tickets you do have to manually buy your tickets but you can buy up to four weeks in advance.
