Sport Suffers
In 1998 a total of more thena £300 million worth of lottery
money was handed over to various sporting bodies. This year that
total will be less than £170 million. There has been no compensatory
rise in government spending to cover that shortfall. And given that
the large majority of this years money will be allocated to elite
and top sports people, the grass roots of sport will suffer, as
it always does. It is estimated that 'Sport', in general, contributed
an about £5 billion in tax last year.
