Oversight wins a Million
A Lotto player from Braunton, Devon, scooped a share of the jackpot for Wednesday 3 October worth £1,298,223 thanks to a simple oversight she made when entering her numbers. 49 year old Janet Baddick, who works as a pharmaceutical technical assistant, has developed the habit of picking her numbers using birthdays and ages of family members.
Janet uses the current ages of family members rather thank sticking rigidly with the same set of numbers, but when it came to entering her lottery line for 3 October, she forgot to change the number 26 to 27 after a recent birthday. As luck would have it, the number 26 came up and made Janet a millionaire.
Janet and Nick are now spending some time think about what they will do now that they enjoy millionaire status. The shopping list thus far includes a new car and a first class trip to the “sunshine state” of Florida in the USA.
Janet, who is married to Nick, discovered her win the morning after the draw took place. She explains: “I got the numbers up on Ceefax and simply couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I immediately woke Nick up to get him to double check the numbers for me. When he confirmed I was not dreaming, we were in complete shock. I was speechless. It still hasn’t sunk in even now!
“I normally update my numbers when somebody has a birthday but I had forgotten to do it this time. Thank goodness I didn’t. We are still really thinking about what to do with our winnings. We will definitely be investing some for the future and also test driving some new cars. We have already booked a holiday to Florida, but the win means we can afford to upgrade as well as having more spending money!”
