Nowhere Luckier than Anywhere Else
Prof Wiseman of Hertfordshire University has established an international
reputation for scientific research into the scientific examination
of unusual areas within psychology. Now he has 'shown' that nowhere
is luckier than anywhere else - well, in Ireland at least. In possibly
one of the least scientific tests reported, Prof. Wiseman bought
50 lottery tickets in Skibberdeen, ireland and 50 in Dublin. Skibberdeen,
if you didn't know, is reputed to have "The Luck of the Irish"
in bucket loads having produced no les than ten jackpot-winning
lottery tickets.
However, none of the 100 tickets won even the smallest of prizes.
What is more, the proportion of correct numbers was about the same
in the tickets from both locations. This lead the lottery sage to
conclude Dublin was just as lucky as Skiberdeen. By [far stretched]
extension, so-called 'lucky' places are no more lucky than anywhere
else. Hmmmm.
