A glitch in the system brought the lottery ticket system down at around 2pm on Saturday 27th december meaning players could not buy a lotto ticket for about four hours. And even then, when the system went live again, it was extremely slow and prevented many players from buying their tickets.
The glitch meant that ticket sales were approximately £8 million less than would have been expected for the Saturday draw. Of course, players who missed the oppertunity to play could be upset, especially if they play a regular set of numbers and might have won. But the eventual sole jackpot winner will also be upset at his or her jackpot being reduced in value. But since they won over £3 million, maybe not.
