UK Lottery Jackpot goes overseas
A Philippines-based company used a UK based agent to buy over 14,000
lottery tickets during the triple rollover. The gamble paid off,
with the company pocketing around £16,600,000 for the syndicate.
The prize money, which is one of the top three jackpots ever in
the UK lottery, is said to have been paid into a bank account in
Liechtenstein. Whilst leaving a sour taste in the mouths of UK players,
there is nothing illegal or against the rules in what the company
did. So long as the person who actually buys the tickets is in the
UK at the time (they could even be a tourist), the purchase is totally
above board. nevertheless, it is another embarrassing event for
the Operators who have only recently got over the bad publicity
generated by paying a jackpot to a convicted rapist.
