Fortune Cookie

Outright Lotto Win on Saturday Numbers found in a fortune cookie helped an engineer from Romford, Essex, win a six-figure share of the £2,355,880 Lotto jackpot for Wednesday 25 June, 2008. Daniel Williams, from Harold Wood, was one of ten players who matched all six main lottery numbers and won £235,588 in the process.

It was four years ago in Greece that Daniel, who is now 23, was given a fortune cookie at a Chinese restaurant whilst dining with his girlfriend Christina. He started using those numbers to play the lottery and until now had never won more than £36, but the fortune cookie proved reliable in the end and Daniel is now in the enviable position of being able to live out a few of his dreams.

Those dreams include buying a motorbike and travelling to some far-off places, as Daniel explains: “We have always wanted to go travelling but couldn’t afford it, now we can – it’s brilliant. I randomly picked my Lotto numbers before we went on holiday, but then decided to take the numbers from the fortune cookie [11, 12, 22, 23, 24 and 36] and have stuck with them ever since.”

Because Daniels plays the lotto by subscription, his win was identified by Camelot and the company called him to break the good news.

“I didn’t realise I had won until a member of Camelot called me,” Daniel said. “I was in shock. I initially thought it was a prank call so checked the numbers in a newspaper and then again online when I got home. I decided to have a bit of fun with my family so kept my win as a surprise and invited them over for the evening. The champagne was on ice for when they arrived. We all celebrated together.”
