Environment Wins from UK Lottery
On the day that the government says it is still trying to tackle
childhood obesity, one project in Birmingham has beaten them to
it! Every time we buy a lottery ticket we are told that 28p of it
goes to the good causes, of which some £18 billion has been
raised since 1994. But it’s not just big projects that benefit,
lots of small grants are available. Children in Birmingham are set
to benefit from a £5,000 Big Lottery Fund grant, which will
allow them to garden on local allotments. The initiative hopes to
benefit the children and the local community by giving the children
a garden space that many who live in flats do not have, as well
as educating them about recycling and other environmentally friendly
practices. Also in Birmingham a £5,000 grant has gone to the
Walsall Arboretum, and pupils at Hob Green Primary School will soon
have £1,250 to develop their fruit and veg allotment.
