County Fan Scores
A 38 year old fan of Stockport County football club has finally stepped forward to win her £772,906 share of a Lotto jackpot that she won on Saturday 3 March.
The thought that she might have won the lottery did not occur to Carole Dakin until she read a newspaper story about County goalkeeper Joe Louis appealing to the owner of the missing ticket, which had been purchased in Stockport, to come forward. She looked at the winning lottery numbers that had also been printed and noticed straight away that they were in fact her own.
The question now was, “Where is the winning ticket?” With the help of a friend Carole started searching through every room in her home, and finally discovered the elusive ticket in a box in the bedroom.
“I’d been suffering from a terrible cold so didn’t check my ticket properly,” Carole said. “I could not believe I had nearly let this slip through my fingers and am so grateful to Joe and the boys at Stockport County for helping to grab my attention. As soon as I read about the unclaimed win in the local paper and saw the numbers, I knew they were mine and I couldn’t believe it. I was shaking like a leaf!”
Spookily, Carole had actually dreamed about winning the lottery less than a week before discovering the elusive winning ticket. Was this a message from ‘the other side’, or simply her subconscious telling her to check that box in the bedroom? We’ll never know, but either way the dream certainly proved to be “on the money” in more ways than one!
Carole is now planning to use some of her fortune to buy her father Ray a special gift for his 62nd birthday. She also intends to treat her mother Betty and her sons Christian and Michael. When all of that has been taken care of, she intends to treat herself too:
“I’ve always wanted to be able to afford my own home and that’s what I plan to do, plus get a new car – a Peugeot 207 CC,” Carole said. “I don’t plan to be too flash as that’s not me.”
