Austrian Player Wins Biggest EuroMillions Jackpot in History

Austrian Player Wins Biggest EuroMillions Jackpot in History
Updated: Friday 8th December 2023

EuroMillions history was created on Friday night as a single ticket holder from Austria matched all the numbers to instantly become the biggest winner of all time. The jackpot was worth £206 million.

The winning numbers for Friday 8th December were  17, 30, 42, 48 and 50, plus Lucky Stars 4 and 8. Go to the EuroMillions Results page to find a full breakdown of all the prizes won, along with the winning Millionaire Maker code.

The jackpot reached its new record after just a couple of rollovers, having been boosted to a mega £171 million for a Superdraw on Friday 1st December.

With no winner for two draws in a row and excitement so high across Europe, ticket sales pushed the jackpot up to its €240 million cap for the latest draw, taking it above £200 million for the first time in history.

If there had not been a winner on Friday, the jackpot could have stayed at its upper limit for a maximum of four draws before it would have had to be paid out - but instead one participant can now lay claim to being EuroMillions’ luckiest-ever player.

Previously, the largest prize ever won had gone to a UK player who scooped £195 million (worth €230 million) in July 2022. The winner staked their claim within a couple of days but kept their identity private so no more details were ever released.

While the UK can no longer boast of having the biggest EuroMillions win after Friday’s record success went to Austria, there have still been five payouts of between £160 million and £200 million in Britain over the years.

The new record may end up being short-lived, as the jackpot cap will now be lifted to €250 million (approximately £214 million). According to the current EuroMillions rules, this is the highest that the jackpot will be allowed to reach. For the past few years, the cap has been raised by €10 million after someone has won the maximum amount, but this is set to be the last time that happens.

The jackpot for the next draw will reset to £14 million. Draws continue every Tuesday and Friday night, and you can pick up tickets from any authorised retailer or choose your numbers online.
