Your Pound, Your Choice

The National Lottery operator, Camelot, is to launch a “Your Pound, Your Choice” trial this summer. In up to five projects in two selected regions, you will be able to tick boxes on voting slips, to help decide which local projects (up to a value of £50,000) will receive lottery funding.

At the moment 28% of each ticket price is returned in the form of a grant, which may go to good causes projects in the arts, heritage, sport, or those that fund education, health aor the environment . But the decision as to who receives a grant rests with various Lottery Distribution Bodies, not local people. So this trial is too see how effective collecting local opinions will be. The scheme will be operated by the Big Lottery Fund, one of the Lottery Distribution Bodies, and will help to decide how lottery money is spent over the next 10 years.
