Global Lottery Sales

Global Lottery sales have been going from strength to strength for years, and there is no sign that the industry will be slowing down any time soon. The good news for both investors and the wider economy is that the global lottery scene appears, to at least some extent, to be largely immune to localised market volatility, and there are several good reasons for this.

The first reason why the global lottery industry is so strong is because lottery tickets continue to be in demand in both good times and bad. When the economy is strong and people are happy, they will often choose to participate in global lottery games because they have a sense of optimism that makes winning a prize – and maybe even a jackpot – seem perfectly reasonable. When the economy isn’t doing so well and people are less happy then they will still buy lottery tickets because global lottery games give them a chance to rise above the general misery.

Another reason for the continued strength of the global lottery industry is the simple fact that the industry itself is still growing. New lottery games are being introduced all over the world. Jurisdictions that already have lottery games are getting more of them, and games are at the same time being launched in jurisdictions where there previously were none.

A third observation is that many lotteries are simply getting bigger. There are now several lotto games which are played in multiple jurisdictions (famous examples being Powerball, Mega Millions and EuroMillions) and this means that bigger jackpots are available to those who participate in them. Bigger jackpots in turn encourage global lottery players to buy more tickets and an upward spiral ensues.

We have yet to see the launch of an actual Global Lottery game which allows players to participate no matter where they are in the world, but the ability to buy lottery tickets online has given players the ability to participate in games which are not available in their own vicinity. A genuine Global Lottery is therefore something that many players are looking forward to, and when it materialises it seems inevitable that the broader global lottery industry will expand even further.
